This all started in 2023 with a grant from the Arts Council England to explore silliness and to share our discoveries through the medium of podcasts. Our first series features lots of interviews with people who agreed (without too much persuasion) to do silly stuff and then talk to us about it.
The original series that went out in 2023 was a series of podcasts that explored why some of us lose the connection with our inner child as we age. Each of the six initial episodes explored ways of getting back in touch with that sense of fun and freedom through challenges, interviews, and plenty of examples of our expertise in silliness.
Presenter Jarek Adams and producer/husband Andrew Thorn are your guides through a journey into some very silly experiences they’ve had that they loved sharing with you. But the original episodes were also about rehabilitating the word ‘silly’ and helping listeners to revel in the freedom to be curious and creative in our every day lives.
Each episode starts with a story of something silly Jarek & Andy did on the theme for the week, followed by an interview with someone they challenged to do a silly experiment, as well as an expert interview about the theme along with some silly things you can try at home yourself.
Series 1 Episodes were shared early in 2023 and they were:
Episode 1 – ‘Subversive Silliness’ is all about how I got started on this journey along with my partner in mischief Andrew Thorn
Episode 2 ‘Stay at Home Silly’ is about armchair travel and how to experience virtually visiting places you might never hope to get to in real life.
Episode 3 ‘Being Secretly Silly’ is about having fun in your own home and learning to play with your environment.
Episode 4 ‘Seriously Silly Stuff’, it’s OK to play with toys and games, and to reconnect with the fun they give us.
Episode 5 ‘Supreme Silliness’ is about fantasy and we’ll meet people who embrace play as a form of escapism.
Episode 6 ‘Starting Level Silly’ is about easing people in and opening them up to embracing a bit of gentle silliness, and exploring a bit of the psychology of silliness.
